Berlin Webinar Program – Investing in The Maldives

A Webinar on Investing in the Maldives was co-hosted by the Embassy of Maldives in Berlin along with the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade of Germany. This webinar brought together the business community in Germany to engage in dialogue with officials from different sectors in the Maldives with the aim of advancing commercial diplomacy between the two countries.

Supported by the two governments, the participants from Germany included over a hundred guests ranging from distinguished diplomats, parliamentarians, investors, and business leaders. From the Maldives, the Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Uz. Fayyaz Ismail attended and gave a keynote speech. The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H.E. Ahmed Khaleel, the Ambassador of Maldives in Germany, H.E. Ahmed Latheef, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, and the Maldives Fund Management Corporation also attended the webinar.

Joint presentations on Investment opportunities in the Maldives was presented by the Ministry of Economic Development and the Maldives Fund Management Corporation. Participants from the different Ministries also provided an overview of Maldives’ recovery priorities post the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic and current investment opportunities.

Minister Fayyaz, in his keynote speech, highlighted the Government of Maldives’ priority in diversifying industries and creating lucrative new investment opportunities in the areas of tourism, green energy, connectivity, and financing services. The Minister also expressed renewed hope and optimism in the recovery of the economy from the Covid-19 pandemic and the re-establishment of partnerships and fruitful engagements with global partners for further economic growth and resilience in the coming years, noting the close bond between the two nations and the willingness to further improve economic engagement and partnership between the two countries.
