Maldives-Malaysia Business Forum 2025 Held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, successfully hosted the Maldives-Malaysia Business Forum 2025 at the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur. The event was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, with Malaysian Prime Minister Seri Dato Anwar Ibrahim in attendance—marking the first forum of its kind to receive such high-level government recognition.

The forum gathered more than 120 high-level delegates, including Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, senior representatives from the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and leading businesses from both countries.

In his welcome remarks, Minister Mohamed Saeed highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral economic ties and emphasized the opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration between the Maldives and Malaysia. The forum served as a platform to promote key investment opportunities across multiple sectors, including tourism, infrastructure, renewable energy, mariculture, and value addition.

In his keynote address, President Dr. Muizzu reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment, driving economic diversification, and attracting foreign investment. He invited Malaysian businesses to tap into the Maldives’ growing opportunities. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim echoed this sentiment, expressing his desire for “greater involvement of Malaysian business in the development of Maldives” and for a relationship between the two governments that is “strong, secure, and based on trust”.

The Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysia, Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, also delivered remarks, reinforcing Malaysia’s strong interest in deepening bilateral economic ties and exploring collaboration across sectors.

The forum marked a key step in strengthening Maldives–Malaysia economic ties, showcasing the Maldives as an attractive investment hub. It concluded with remarks from the President of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, who emphasized the goal of deepening business collaboration.
