The Maldives-UK Business Forum convened on 17th July 2025 at The Landmark London, bringing together senior Maldivian officials, UK business leaders, and institutional partners to advance trade and investment collaboration between the two nations.
His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu led the Maldivian delegation, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s position as a long-standing strategic partner of the Maldives. The President highlighted the UK’s significant contributions to the country’s two economic pillars—tourism and fisheries—while expressing his vision for expanding cooperation into emerging sectors including creative industries, climate technology, and digitisation. These areas align with the Maldives’ national development priorities as the country works to build a resilient and diversified economy.
The Forum featured comprehensive presentations showcasing investment opportunities and outlining the Government’s development priorities, demonstrating the Maldives’ commitment to creating a competitive, investor-friendly environment.
A cornerstone of the event was an interactive dialogue session where UK investors engaged directly with four Maldivian Cabinet Ministers: Dr. Abdulla Khaleel (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim (Minister of Tourism and Environment), Mr. Ahmed Shiyam (Minister of Fisheries), and Mr. Mohamed Saeed (Minister of Economic Development and Trade). The ministers provided detailed insights on sectoral priorities, investment incentives, regulatory reforms, and strategic opportunities across tourism, fisheries, renewable energy, finance, and sustainability initiatives.
The Forum marked a significant milestone with the official launch of the Maldives Fisheries Brand, representing a strategic initiative to strengthen the international positioning of the country’s sustainably sourced fish products in global markets.
In a key bilateral development, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the West London Chambers of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding to foster long-term business linkages and institutional collaboration between the two countries.
The Forum concluded with a high-level networking session that facilitated both business-to-business and business-to-government engagement, creating valuable connections for future collaboration. The Maldives-UK Business Forum 2025 represents a significant step forward in strengthening the economic partnership between the two nations, opening new pathways for investment and trade cooperation across traditional and emerging sectors.
