The India-Maldives Business Forum series was kicked off in New Delhi, inaugurated by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on 7th October 2024. Organized jointly by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), the series of events brought together government officials and business leaders from both countries to explore investment opportunities and deepen bilateral commercial relations across multiple sectors.
The forum continued in Mumbai and Bengaluru from October 8th to 9th, with His Excellency President Dr. Muizzu in attendance in all the events. This is also the first extensive business tour by a Maldivian President across India.
In his keynote addresses, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the historical and contemporary ties that bind the two nations. Dr. Muizzu outlined his administration’s bold vision for the Maldives – focusing on diversifying the economy through investments in financial services, the maritime economy and digital transformation.
Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mr. Mohamed Saeed, in his remarks, invited Indian businesses to invest in the Maldives and highlighted the critical importance that the government attaches to private sector engagement and foreign direct investment in driving economic growth. Key agenda items of the forums included presentations on investment opportunities in the Maldives, the tourism sector, and the newly enhanced legal frameworks aimed at protecting foreign investors.
