Webinar on Investment Opportunities in Maldives – Dubai, UAE

The Embassy of Maldives in the United Arab Emirates in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, organized a webinar bringing together over 100 participants including 85 investors from UAE, as well as officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economic Development, the Maldives Fund Management Corporation, the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, as well as the Ministry of Tourism.

The objective of the event was to provide investors in UAE with information about investment opportunities in the Maldives and to strengthen the economic cooperation between the Maldives and UAE.

The Minister of Finance, H.E. Ibrahim Ameer gave a keynote speech in which he highlighted the unprecedented shocks that Maldives experienced due to the Covid-19 pandemic with closed borders and travel restrictions which affected the economy especially for the tourism sector. The Minister expressed that diversification of the economy was being pursued as a way forward for a resilient economy, and noted the significant economic gains achieved through tremendous efforts for the economic recovery and envisaged a prospective 2021 for the Maldives.

The Ministry of Economic Development along with the Maldives Fund Management Corporation delivered a presentation on the investment climate and opportunities for investment in the Maldives. Followed by the remarks and presentations, a question-and-answer session was conducted by the UAE embassy for a better insight of the projects and investment opportunities. The webinar was conducted in English with interpretation in Arabic.

In the closing remarks, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of Maldives to UAE, H.E. Aminath Shabeena noted the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Maldives and the United Arab Emirates, and thanked the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry for co-hosting a successful webinar on Investment Opportunities in the Maldives.
