Expo 2020 Dubai - 1st October 20201 – 31st March 2022

The World Expo is one of the oldest and largest international events. Taking place every five years for six months, it brings together countries across cultures and continents for a show of human brilliance and achievement.

The very first World Expo was London’s Great Exhibition of 1851. 170 years later, we have the very first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region.

Expo 2020 Dubai – now happening from 1st October 2021 to 31st March 2022, will be a global six-month celebration of creativity, innovation, humanity and world cultures. With the belief that innovation and progress are the result of people and ideas coming together in new and unique ways, this year's theme for Expo 2020 Dubai is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.”

But what exactly is a World Expo?
It is the world coming together; this time in Dubai, UAE for six months. It is a moment in time for everyone to participate, collaborate and innovate through the themes of Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. A source of inspiration and lasting influence on consciousness for visitors.

Visitors will get to experience the world with 192 country pavilions that showcase the unique beauty, their best ideas, innovations, and inventions.

With 182 days of food, music, tech, culture, art and creativity – Expo 2020 Dubai is for everyone, for all ages, cultures, and interests.

The Republic of Maldives became a member of the BIE in 2007 and our first participation in an International Exhibition was at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China. The last Expo Maldives participated was in 2015 which was held in Milan, Italy. Under the purview of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maldives will be taking part in Expo 2020 Dubai showcasing our unique natural environment & share our development story with the world.

The Maldives pavilion will be located in the Sustainability District connected with the Al-Wasl dome, the beating heart of Expo 2020 Dubai. The Maldives pavilion aims to present our visitors with a visual journey through our history, culture, ecology, cuisine, & art.

We will have local products on sale at the Expo and a contingent of cultural performers, musicians, and artists will be displaying their talents as well. During the six-month period of the Expo, Maldives will be organizing a number of high-level investment forums and events to give information on investment opportunities in the Maldives to foreign investors.

A special day which will be celebrated during the Expo as Maldives’ national day which will be held on 25th October 2021. Along with a flag raising ceremony and other special events, Maldives will be represented across the Expo site through different cultural performances and activities.
